Now, don’t even get me started on why I should be listing down reasons I can’t be proud about my country instead, but I have been tagged by Jonas and asked to do just as the title says. I believe the original context of the game is to enumerate three signs that are happening now that makes one proud to be Filipino, but it’s easier to give out traits which should help us pull through as they always have. Talk about being optimistic.
I call them the three F’s.
1. Family. We are so closely knit, we can always look to someone’s support when all things go awry. Our sense of family extends farther out beyond bloodlines. Reason why Ms. Philippines will be Most Photogenic at Ms. Universe for the nth time (thanks to internet voting. I learned we have already a total of 7 of these awards, 5 of which were gathered from online votes.)
2. Fun. We know how to party, we know how to treat our friends right, we enjoy life despite the hardships. And we know how to laugh at our silly selves. We generally acknowledge that life is a gift, and that it is good.
3. Faith. Expressed in all forms. It doesn’t even have to manifest as a religion, or recognize the divine. We believe in something, and when we do, we are passionate about it.
I’m not sure if the following are into memes like this, but I’m curious about what they know, but which I have failed to see (so that I could not answer what was really asked for). I’m tagging Ramil, Leylander, Sajid, Estanli, an2net, Massa P., Jane, Martin, badoodles, and Tingting.
This seems like one interesting mix!

Ow. I’ve answered this meme too. Nice one. Funny, cause we both linked back to Nakanampucha.
June 4, 2007 at 1:52 pm
yes, Nakanampucha! is a habit for me, hehe. i just wish people would contribute more, para mas masaya.
it’s one of the very few sites i know that celebrates our uniqueness, as you put it. it’s not just text jokes, there’s variety… parang halu-halo, parang jeepney decals, parang fiesta. very Pinoy.
June 4, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Uyy… thank you ha! Hehehe… na-touch naman ako sa comments niyo… bwehehehe…
Pero seriously, so glad you guys really enjoy the site!
Contri pa kayo…

Jun, by tagging me you just gave me more work. Nice
! Already made a post about loving being Pinoy but let’s see if I can come up with something. You’ve basically covered all the bases.
June 4, 2007 at 5:37 pm
just take your time, Jane. hehe. the meme actually asks for specific examples.
as an afterthought, maybe i can cite that the Philippine electorate seems to have matured, judging from the outcome of the recent polls. guns, goons, and gold don’t work anymore. so does being a celebrity.

Chuckie for President!!!

ganda talaga ni Ms pinas, para na ring nanalo ng Miss unibers sa billing dun sa nbc.com ah. ganda din ni vanessa minnilo, half-pinay yun di ba jun?

June 6, 2007 at 11:05 pm
yes, badoodles, ganda nga ni Teresa. i don’t think she’s the pageant type of girl, she’d be more comfortable being with her law books at UP than dance in those cubicles, Amsterdam Rossebuurt style.
i saw the abs-cbn replay, and i suppose the pageant rules have changed na… and they’re looking for a different kind of girl nowadays, dapat glamorosa, rampadora, at iba pa. in short, babaeng bakla. padala na lang kaya natin si Pokwang? (di malayo ang hitsura nun kay Ms. Japan. *joke*)
Japan was cute, but among the top 5, i thought it should have been either Korea, or Venezuela. and if the top five was to be determined by the evening gown contest, how could the judges have missed Angola?! she was smoldering hot! but then, i was not a judge)
it’s Ms. Universe’s loss, not Teresa’s. (sour-graping ba? hehehe)
yes, half Pinoy si Vanessa Minnillo, born at Clark Air Base daw, sabi ng wiki. pati sina Ms. Norway at Ms. Germany, mga lahing Pinoy din.
June 7, 2007 at 2:48 pm
I agree. Enough said.
rock it.
June 7, 2007 at 3:29 pm
welcome, TACTOLOGY!
but which are you agreeing to, the comments about being Filipino, or about Ms. Universe?
June 8, 2007 at 9:02 am
Dude, thank you so much for tagging me for this meme. Truthfully, this is the one meme I wanted to do… out of all the memes (I’ve been tagged for and lol, neglecting to start writing… ooops, bad me). I’m a Filipino who grew up in Canada… trying to reconnect with my ethnic roots this past year (hence the reason for the blog and its targeted audience)… so yeah, my perspective would be different.
It might take me a while though to do… I’m going to post my entry to coincide with Philippine National Day this coming June.
Thanks. Cheers.
June 8, 2007 at 9:16 am
yes, Massa P., it’s about that why i had to tag you. i was thinking we’ll be getting something from a different viewpoint, other than having the joy of reading a fruityoaty piece.
so looking forward to it.

June 11, 2007 at 1:23 am
This a very interestng post, been here in the US for seventeen years, most of the time I can tell a US-born Asian whether he or she is of Filipino descent. There is something in a Filipino that only another Filipino can feel. It is called gut feelings or “vibes.” But while I can recognize a Filipino when I see one, I can’t tell if he or she a visayan, tagalor or other, im often recognize that if i was half n half “meaning” im guessing half pilipina n half is other ethic whichever come first, all i know in my knowledge the notion “once a filipino always a filipino and it feels good to be one, and yes i was born in cebu philippines. thank or sharing ani migo jun ug welcome sa bisdak me kookie aka coco pilipino ako tc.

We Pinoys are indeed unique. We don’t always admit it, but were very “nationalistic”…..just look at all the Youtube “comment wars” between Malaysians and Pinoys over “Siti Nurhaliza vs. Lea Salonga”. The Pinoys there are downright vicious!! Hahahahaha!!
July 31, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Count me in! I know there are a lot of problems in the country today, because you know, we’re a Third World country. But I think our cultural flaws and some isolated cases of misbehavior by some of our countrymen is not something uniquely Filipino and is shared by other cultures/countries as well. Well, maybe in less frequency, hehe!
But still, some of our best assets as a people are uniquely FILIPINO… Diba? =)
