about

I come from the Philippines, in a small city called Ozamiz. Where practically everybody knows anybody. And where there isn’t much to explore. So it seems.

Life WAS a boring routine which started with mustering the will to get out of bed for the daily grind, and then counting the long hours until workday’s end, so I can be home.

Don’t get me wrong. I love what I do. I have a private practice and I teach Dentistry. My work allows me to experience what matter most to me - the constant opportunity to learn and share what I know, to be a medium for healing, without having to be too far away from home- to experience the people around me, who matter most to me, from whom I draw much of what I am.

But I also find comfort and solace from things which leave me to myself and not worry about making errors. Like going online, because it is a way cheaper alternative to travel. And reading the paperback editions of the classics my father brought from a car-boot sale in England. Or listening to my outdated collection of music, mostly given, or hand-me-downs, or downloaded by a devoted friend. Or working out at the local gym, because it relieves me of stress and is a change from my sedentary groove. Or see what Gale Gand is whipping up in her Lifestyle channel show, and dream about doing these in the kitchen myself. I can’t cook, but I do bake. Usually on weekends when I’m most relaxed, and when the urge is strong enough. Otherwise, I sleep.

I do go out occasionally, when friends invite, to the simple pleasures of barhopping (there’s at least two I am most comfortable going to), the movies (only three, but relatively up-to-date), coffee(just for the conversation. I make it better at home). I do love their company and enjoy making new ones. My circumstances have given me the chance to see places as well.

My social life, if there is and if you can call it that, has expanded to people I have known through the internet. People who have introduced me to a plethora of things to try, or at least consider doing. Or going to. Even within the bounds of this crammed city I’m in. Life has changed from it, as has my way of seeing people and things around me, and of myself.

WELCOME to my world.

  • Aha! New look ang blog! Hehe! Siguro before you decided to use this template pasubok-subok ka muna ng ibang templates ano? Hehehe! Hirap pumili ano? :P

  • Yup! I had wanted to use a three-column template, but finally decided on PRESSROW as I like the clean white (feels like crisp unsoiled linen, hehehe) and it’s easy on the eyes. I’m just baffled why some links are colored blue while others are black. But no big deal. :-)

  • I really like that globetracker in your blog site. When I have a minute maybe I’ll check your entries.. later ;)

  • Interesting read, your blog. I’m sending this over from my studio in the hinterlands of Park Slope in Brooklyn.

are you from Ozamiz as well?
i’ve been longing to connect with other bloggers from this city, but there must be very few of us.

  • Hi, jun, googled my name and your blog appeared. I saw your pics of misamis occidental, i was there when a barge carrying oil from guimaras sank and too bad we didnt have enough time to explore your area. we stayed in plaridel town and the beach there is great but sadly it was too windy. didnt have the chance to swim! heard from a fellow reporter from gma7 she had fun exploring ozamiz city.

  • thanks for dropping by my blog, Adrian! yey! :-)

yes, i remember that spill, we were concerned here, as efforts at making Misamis Occidental an eco-tourism destination showed much promise.

Ozamiz can be an interesting place to explore, as i’m finding out. this was never possible before, but much has changed really.

  • Hi there Jun!

My sis in-law is from Ozamis so that’s a common thread. I lived in Mindanao as a child (Davao) but never got to go to Ozamis. I live in Manila now.

Nice blog you have here. Will come visit again!

  • Jane: i wonder who your sis-in-law is, i might happen to know her, if not her family. this is a very small community we have here.

thanks for the kind comment about my blog. you write very well, and your passion for yoga makes me want to look for an instructor here, stat! :-)

    you’re in my blogroll.

  • i don’t know why, but your name sounds so familiar. i am from bohol which is a long way from ozamis but really…guess i have to call my mom just to check if she knows a jun anteola because i remember her saying the name before…anyway, blabbering here! hello by the way! hahaha! rivafilia ni bays!

For someone “new” in Ozamiz, I am soooo glad I stumbled upon your blog. Having always been (dem!) a homebody and practically virtual, reading something from someone who’s probably just a stone’s throw away is refreshing. I’ll look you up. Perhaps I’ll stalk you one of these days, um, I’ll prolly pose as a patient or something as unoriginal as that. LOL.

But really, this takes a higher place in my Favorites list. :D

  • haha! good to know this blog reaches fellow Ozamisnons.

do get in touch, my contact details are in my contact page.

i wonder if you keep a blog, too?

  • Magandang araw po! Pwede po bang makisali sa kaguluhan dito? Hehe! Anyway, I enjoyed your blog so much, Jun. And you know what usually follows after that… Mind if I link you up? Thanky! :-D

  • you are very much welcome, Jovi! i’ve been to your blog, too, and find it enjoyable. i might read everything in it tonight. :-)

you’re already in my roll, in case you didn’t notice.

  • Everything?! Wow! Salamat po… I couldn’t thank you enough. Maybe I can start by linking you up… Anyway, I’m glad to be in your blogroll… :-D

  • Dr. Jun,

Maayong adlaw! Magkapit-bayan po tayo. :D I’m from Iligan. If ever magkaroon ng WordPress-Sanctioned events, dapat pala sabay tayo ng pagluwas pa-Manila.

  • Doctor doctor i am sick… lols
Maayong adlaw man doc! Napadaan po, i like your blog, minsan lang makakita ng dentist blogger pareho pa kayo ng propesyon ng dad ko but now he is retired. Konting gawain sa bahay na lang pag may mga patients na di masyadong makayanan ang mga mahal na dentist eh sa papa ko tumatakbo. I really admire him coz he doesn’t have any quams or whatsoever, kalimitan kulang pa pambayad ng patients but kahit magkano ok lang sa kanya. It’s true. Kaya di siya yumaman lols. But i know he is happy and fulfilled. Btw, im from Negros Occidental. Quite a small village so no wonder :D . See you around doc!

  • hi Maru! talaga? i’ve been reading your blog since i saw you on Chuckie’s, and all the while, i thought you were from Manila! sure, i’d like to have company kung luluwas. para tayo ang norwest-Mindanao delegation. wahahaha…

by the way, go check Bisdak Planet in my blogroll, madaming taga Mindanao andun.

    WordPress-Pinoys rule! :P

  • Banana: (it’s really Anna, right?) maayong adlaw ’sab! :P

i suppose most (if not all) promdi dentists share the same thing with your father. we all realize that many people here just cannot afford, and/or do not see the value of what we do. ok lang.

welcome. i’m glad to know you like this blog. :-)

  • Sad to say they don’t. But yes, its ok lang.
Btw, I am Annie, not Anna. lols :D

  • Nice site doc!

  • Hi All

I am trying to collect information on all parts of Philippines. This is to let intending tourists get first hand reports from residents, and the idea is, that people from Philippines give a little story, a bit of history, a photo, info on a tourist attraction, anything they want to send in, about their particular area that will sound attractive to tourists. Look forward to hearing from you.

  • Dokie,
