Huli ‘Kaw!
So it isn’t just the lead laced barbies and formaldehyde on clothing, and White Rabbit.
But I wonder how they got to our store shelves in the first place? Are these bootleg? But how come they’re up and out for all to see and take?
Don’t we have the proper authorities to regulate and insure consumer safety? Are they turning a blind eye? Aren’t we?
And China isn’t even alone in the guilt. Let’s look some place closer, like home.

On Leadership, and Being A Gracious Leader
“But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown. ” - Carl Sagan (astronomer)
I had the chance to attend my alma mater’s Central Student Council induction last Saturday, August 11th. I am faculty adviser to the College of Dentistry’s student council anyway, and my dean asked me to go on his behalf.
Going has become a yearly habit, and nothing much has changed in the program. We were also in the same venue, ate the same food, saw the same people. It has become humdrum, dreary, uninteresting for me. The saving grace was seeing and hearing Misamis Occidental governor Leo Ocampos, who is a product of and has taught in the same school, and was my mentor during my few years as student leader. This charismatic man persuades through his outright sense of humor. He doesn’t give lengthy speeches, he just jokes. And without anyone knowing it, we’re nodding in agreement.
I couldn’t agree more with his points on being proactive, rather than reactive. Continue reading this entry »
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRghhhhh…
I lost five of my articles, replies to each included! I had inadvertently deleted them, not aware that if I erased them from my Live Writer, they’d be gone from WordPress, too!
Is there any way I could retrieve them?
Do You Have a Jackson Pollock In You?
Ever find yourself staring at your monitor, having nothing to look for, not quite knowing what to do, yet still not wanting to leave the pc? With pen you can doodle, but with your mouse you can keep clicking and try your hand at abstract art in this site.
And who says you can’t scribble with it too? And even try your hand at conducting music.
Or if you really have the compulsion to make love with your computer, you can turn your internet connection off and do as suggested by Dean in his blog. Make sure you read the comments, too, for even more tips.
Painted Animal Hands
I remember when we were kids and there were the occasional (or was it constant?) power blackouts. It was fun, nonetheless, as we could gather round and listen to made up stories, scary ones and find who gets to pee in his sorry pants. Or make shadow puppets with our hands against the “gasera“(kerosene lamp), sooty nostrils being least among our juvenile concerns. It was tricky to make rabbits, but my swan was more recognizable compared to my brother’s elephant…
Reminiscing incited by a link on painted hands by Italian artist Guido Daniele for an Animal Planet ad.
I was brought to it by The AV Club blog.
Here are a few favorites.
Eragon: A Straightforward Movie Review
I was finally able to sneak time to watch the movie adaptation to Christopher Paolini’s Eragon, rather belated as world premiere was mid-December of last year. I am not sure when exactly it was first shown in Manila and major cities, but I figure about three or four weeks past. That’s the usual waiting time for foreign flicks here in my city. But Tagalog movies, particularly those coming from Star Cinema, are shown simultaneous with the rest in the country.
Anyhow, it was a treat, if only because I haven’t gone to the movies for some time until last weekend. I was unaware of the novel, nor the production details to the movie, but was made aware that there is such from occasional trailers and internet hype I chanced upon. I heard it reached #1, toppling Casino Royale.
Clipmarks: How to Share Information to People Who Have No Time
Here’s a nifty way to share info from the web, by showing exact snippets of it (the most important parts), instead of just linking to them like we usually do here in blogs. Sometimes, we just want to share pieces, or perhaps quote the most compelling sections of whatever we stumble upon, and not have to write anything. Or we might not have the luxury of time to read.
Clipmarks gives us that pleasure. We can save, rate and tag our clips just as well. Here’s how it works.
Resource and Tutorials for Web Designers and Developers
…came across this site through the Green Living blog, and although I may not be able to find time for it soon, I’d like to have my own website and be able to say I made it myself. Much of the language in computer tech are alien to me, as is much of what is shared in the site but I’m sure I’d be able to use them some day. It should be useful and informative for you who are more advanced at this.
Life’s Great Truths
This was posted at Just Thinkin’ and had me in stitches, I just had to repost here. With life’s pressures and struggles, we need to be able to see the humor in it all.
GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:
1. No matter how hard you try, you can’t baptize cats.
2. When your Mum is mad at your Dad, don’t let her brush your hair.
3. If your sister hits you, don’t hit her back. They always catch
the second person.
4. Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5. You can’t trust dogs to watch your food.
6. Don’t sneeze when someone is cutting your hair.
7. Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8. You can’t hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9. Don’t wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10. The best place to be when you’re sad is Grandpa’s lap. Continue reading this entry »
Hooked to Blogging!
Cartoon from xkcd.com
I had wanted to write an article on this, but the procrastinator in me always gets in the way. Until I got to read this post entitled, the 5th: Freedom of Blog , on Frank Hilario’s Creative Leaps blog. Nobody could have said it better.
